Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has ordered a review of the work of intelligence and law enforcement agencies following a terrorist attack that occurred during a Jewish festival in Sydney.

Albanese stated that the review will assess whether these institutions have adequate powers, structures, and procedures to ensure the safety of citizens.

According to Australian authorities, the attack was inspired by the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS), which—according to the prime minister—demonstrates a rapidly evolving security environment in Australia and the need for heightened vigilance by the responsible institutions.
