Officials from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported today that at least one person died and seven others were injured when a “Tesla Cybertruck” caught fire and exploded outside the entrance of a hotel owned by newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated that the company’s management is investigating the incident.
Details of the Incident
Clark County police and fire department officials announced during a press conference that one person was killed inside the vehicle, and efforts to retrieve the body were ongoing. Seven others nearby suffered minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital.
According to a statement from the county spokesperson, a fire in part of the “Trump International” hotel in Las Vegas was reported at 8:40 a.m. local time. The cause of the fire has not been disclosed.
FBI representative Jeremy Schwartz said during the press conference, “We know you have many questions, but we don’t have many answers at this time.”
The 64-story Trump hotel is located adjacent to the iconic Las Vegas Strip.
Social Media Footage
American media outlets earlier reported, citing social media videos, that the vehicle, manufactured by Elon Musk’s Tesla company, was seen engulfed in flames outside the hotel’s main entrance.
Videos show large flames erupting through the truck’s windows, followed by several explosions around 9:00 a.m. local time. A massive cloud of smoke subsequently covered part of the Trump hotel.
Elon Musk Responds
Elon Musk addressed the incident, stating that Tesla’s management team is actively investigating the Cybertruck explosion.
“The whole Tesla senior team is investigating this matter. Will post more information as soon as we learn anything. We have never seen anything like this before,” Musk wrote on the social media platform X.
