Trucks, various vehicles, and geodetic measurement instruments were seen on the Iber Bridge in Mitrovica on Tuesday.

While these tests are being carried out, the caretaker government has stated that it is unaware of who is conducting them.

The acting Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Hysen Durmishi, said that the ministry had completed testing last year and that they are not informed about who is carrying out today’s testing.

“We, as the ministry, completed the testing last year and received the final report confirming that the bridge is stable for all types of loads. We are not conducting any tests now and are not informed about who is,” Durmishi told Koha.

The Iber Bridge

The bridge over the Iber River is currently open only to pedestrians. Italian KFOR forces are stationed on the bridge. Last year, the government announced plans to open it for vehicle traffic, which immediately drew reactions from the international community.

The EU stated that the issue of the bridge’s opening should be part of the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue.

Days ago, the Vetëvendosje Movement published renderings of how the two bridges could look.

The images showed the new structures on both sides of the main bridge. The photos were published after the acting Minister of Infrastructure, Liburn Aliu, announced that the Ministry had signed a memorandum of cooperation with the municipalities of South and North Mitrovica to support infrastructure projects — with the construction of two new bridges listed as a joint initiative.
