In marking the 25th anniversary of the liberation of the Municipality of Pristina, several activities and a solemn session of the Municipal Assembly were held, where the importance of this day was emphasized.

The mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, emphasized that a legacy of unity and strength should be left to future generations.

“As we commemorate June 11, we must reaffirm our mission, our collective effort driven by passion to inspire generations to come as we were inspired by those before us. True human values shine most strongly in times of crisis, and our history is proof of that,” said Rama.

Besides the session, Rama, for this anniversary, met with the former 5th Guards Battalion of the Operative Area of Llap, where he mentioned the contribution of the people in the war.

When you left, you left, don’t come back, it’s lucky that you are here, for some there are still traumas, some have not returned, today we pay our respects to those who are not here today, but they live in our hearts as long as we are alive” , Rama said.

This Tuesday marks 25 years since the liberation of Pristina. On this date, the forces of the Kosovo Liberation Army entered the capital.

This was done on the day when the Kumanovo agreement signed on June 9 in Kumanovo, North Macedonia between NATO forces and the Yugoslav army entered into force.

After this agreement, the withdrawal of Serbian forces from Kosovo began, until a day later NATO peacekeeping troops entered Kosovo.

The full withdrawal of Serbian troops ended on June 20, 1999. With the entry of international troops, the return to Kosovo of more than 800,000 refugees was made possible.

For the 25th anniversary of the liberation of the capital, the former administrator of the United Nations Organization, Bernard Kouchner, was expected to visit Pristina, but the latter’s visit was cancelled.

“The visit was canceled due to logistical issues related to Dr. Kouchner. As soon as the date of the visit is rescheduled, we will inform you in time. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation”, says the press release of the Municipality of Pristina.

According to the initial agenda, on June 12 he would address the Assembly of Kosovo in a solemn session.

Also, Kouchner planned to meet with President Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Pristina, Përparim Rama, planned to hand over the “Key to the City” to him, and a plaque and a street named after him were also expected to be unveiled.
