The Commonwealth of The Bahamas has officially recognized the Republic of Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state, making it the 121st country to extend formal recognition to Kosovo.
The announcement was made by President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani, who described the decision as historic for the country. In a public statement, Osmani confirmed that the bilateral agreement on recognition and the establishment of diplomatic relations was signed in the capital of The Bahamas.
“Another historic decision for our country. Congratulations to all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo. We have just signed here, in the capital of The Bahamas, the bilateral agreement on recognition and the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Prime Minister of The Bahamas, our good friend Philip Davis,” Osmani wrote.
Formal Recognition and Diplomatic Ties
According to the joint declaration, The Bahamas formally recognizes Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state, while both parties agreed to establish diplomatic relations with immediate effect, in accordance with international law and the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
Both states reaffirmed their commitment to the principles and objectives of the United Nations Charter, including respect for sovereignty, equality among states, and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
Expansion of Bilateral Cooperation
The Commonwealth of The Bahamas and the Republic of Kosovo also expressed a shared intention to deepen cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including:
- Political consultations
- Trade and investment
- Tourism
- Education and culture
- Technology and innovation
- Public sector cooperation
- People-to-people exchanges
Both sides emphasized that cooperation will be developed on the basis of mutual respect, reciprocity, and constructive engagement, in line with the legal frameworks of each country.
The two states welcomed the prospect of building a warm and productive partnership, aimed at serving the interests of both peoples and contributing to international peace and cooperation.
