Prishtina – The Basic Court in Pristina on June 28, 2024, the day of the announcement of the verdict for the murder of the Serbian politician, Oliver Ivanovic, had also set the measure of detention for Marko Rosić, whom he had sentenced to 10 years in prison.

However, the accused Roshiq, having understood the court’s decision on the punishment against him, escaped and so far remains unreachable for the Kosovo Police.

In the decision on the determination of the measure of detention against him, it is stated that the measure of detention is set until the finality of the judgment, not exceeding the certified sentence of 10 years of imprisonment.

In the ruling, it is stated that the Police Station in North Mitrovica must carry out the execution of this ruling and arrest the convicted person and notify the court.

The Police Station in North Mitrovica is obliged to execute this ruling, where upon the execution of this ruling, I will arrest the accused and send him to the Detention Center for the purpose of executing this ruling,” the ruling states.

Regarding this, the Deputy Director of Police for the North, Veton Elshani, said that they accepted the court’s decision at around 15:00 on the day when his sentence was announced and immediately mobilized for his arrest.

“We were under arrest that same day, 28.06.2024. Immediately when we accepted the decision, we went to arrest him, but he was not at home. We accepted the decision around 3:00 p.m.,” Elshani said.

The court justified the detention measure against the convict Marko Rashić with the risk of his escape. It is said that there are circumstances which highlight the fact that the accused can avoid criminal prosecution, since he has two citizenships, that of Kosovo and Serbia, which facilitates his escape.

“As for the risk of escape, there are circumstances that highlight the fact that the accused, with his stay at liberty, has a real risk that he will avoid criminal prosecution. The same is a citizen of the Republic of K., he is also a citizen of the Republic of S. where he can very easily escape and flee to the Republic of S. and be inaccessible in this criminal case. The fact of the escape was made even more real by the lack of international and regional legal cooperation in criminal cases between the Republic of S. and the Republic of Kosovo, which made it more impossible to secure the accused in the case of the escape to S,” the ruling states.

The court, when assigning Rashiq’s detention, took into consideration the seriousness of the criminal offense and the sentence imposed.

“The court, in this particular case, sentenced this accused to 10 years of imprisonment, which is a very high sentence and represents a serious crime committed by the accused, or represents a serious crime for which the accused could potentially escape to escape the punishment imposed by this judgment in the event of the remaining in force of the judgment by which he was found guilty and the execution of the criminal sanction”, the ruling states.

Otherwise, the Basic Court in Pristina, on June 28, 2024, has announced a guilty verdict against the accused for the murder of the Serbian politician, Oliver Ivanovic, where the four accused Nedelkjo Spasojevic, Marko Rošić, Dragisha Marković and Zharko Jovanović have been sentenced to over 20 years in prison. together.
