The first session of Albania’s new parliamentary legislature began with high tensions inside the chamber.
The session was opened by Socialist MP Vasil Llajo, who presided over the ceremony as the oldest member of parliament. The first to take the floor was Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha.
As Berisha began his speech at the podium, several Democratic Party MPs – including Flamur Noka, Gazment Bardhi, and Klevis Balliu – approached him.
This prompted the mobilization of the Republican Guard inside the hall to ensure order and the continuation of the plenary session.
