The Government of Kosovo has responded to the Serbian President, Aleksandar Vučić, regarding his statements about the decision of the CBK (Central Bank of Kosovo) on the dinar and Kosovo’s membership process in the Council of Europe.
The Government’s spokesperson, Përparim Kryeziu, said that this is not the first time the President of Serbia has made similar statements through which he displays his intention for invasion in Kosovo.
“In a previous instance, he had referred to the conflict in Nagorno Karabakh between Armenia and Azerbaijan, taking the actions of the latter as an example. This time, the threat comes right on the anniversary of the Ohrid Agreement on the Implementation Annex of the Basic Agreement. As if to prove that Serbia has no intention of implementing it. Serbia continuously publicly expresses that it does not recognize the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Kosovo. This dangerous message was particularly emphasized on October 26, after the meeting with heads of states and EU leaders in Brussels, where Vučić again refused to sign the agreement,” Kryeziu expressed.
He said that Serbia’s threats and warmongering rhetoric have a long history.
“Even though Serbia’s threats against Kosovo and the warmongering rhetoric from Serbian state leaders have a long history that is constantly repeated, they should not become normal daily statements. They cannot be overlooked or ignored, or simply regarded as statements for domestic consumption. They must be monitored with high vigilance and strongly condemned by the international community, including the United States of America, the EU, the United Kingdom, and so on. As a hostage of the past and desperate that he cannot turn back time, Vučić dangerously hopes that the methods of the past may one day be the solution for the future,” Kryeziu stated to Tëvë1.
During the day, Vučić declared that he only expects bad news for his country and that Serbia will change its approach in the dialogue with Kosovo, which is mediated by the European Union (EU).
“I will explain how we were deceived, where and how we were lied to by some so-called friends, and many others, and this concerns Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe (CoE),” said Vučić. Speaking of Kosovo’s membership in the CoE, he said, “we told them what would happen if this were to happen. Because they think they have the right to interpret the agreement falsely, not wrongly or as they wish, but falsely.”
