“The ‘Insistence’ on the Association Under the Trump Administration, Hill: I Assume the Same Position Will Be Maintained”

U.S. Ambassador to Serbia, Christopher Hill, has commented on whether the incoming administration might be more insistent on moving forward with Kosovo’s work related to the establishment of the Association.

According to him, any future administration will maintain the same position, but he added that the current administration also attempted to support the EU in making progress, particularly to implement what was agreed upon.

“I assume that every future administration will maintain the same position. Why this hasn’t happened, I think that’s something people need to analyze, look at carefully, and see what can be done. It’s very clear that this is an unsatisfactory situation, and I might add that if I were from Kosovo, I would find it very unsatisfactory. In the end, there are many people living in Kosovo who deserve a better situation, and they know they can achieve that through greater cooperation within the framework of the EU-organized dialogue,” Hill said to RTS.

Regarding the change in government in the U.S., and with the statement that every time there is a change in administration in Washington, local analysts conclude that U.S. policy toward the region, particularly toward Serbia, will not change at all, Hill noted that it is difficult to say and remains to be seen, but he certainly believes that the incoming Trump administration, especially a part of its staff, has experience in dealing with Serbia, so he would not rule out a change.

“The issue with Serbia and the United States is to try to improve this relationship, to continue in the right direction. I think it will happen,” Hill concluded.
