The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for the former Russian Minister of Defense, Sergei Shoigu, and the Russian general, Valery Gerasimov, as suspects of crimes committed during the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Shoigu stepped down as defense minister last month and was appointed secretary of Russia’s Security Council.
It was the biggest change Russian President Vladimir Putin has made to the military command since he launched the war against Ukraine in 2022.
The Hague-based ICC said Shoigu and Gerasimov are suspected of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity for ordering attacks on civilians and civilian objects in Ukraine.
