The Prime Minister of the country, Albin Kurti, has commemorated the victims of the massacres carried out by Serbian forces on March 31, 1999, in Pastasel, Rahovec, and Burim, Malishevë.
In a post on Facebook, Kurti emphasized that in the last week of March 1999, Serbia under Milošević intensified its brutality as part of the genocidal plan “The Scythe,” killing hundreds of innocent civilians, torturing and looting thousands more, and destroying invaluable property across Kosovo.
“We do not forget the civilians murdered in the massacres carried out by the Serbian armed forces in many locations across Kosovo, from Kaçanik, Gjakova, Suhareka, Prizren, Rahovec, Skenderaj, Peja, Obiliq, Fushë Kosovë, Gjakova, Podujeva, Pristina, Deçan, Mitrovica, Vushtrri, Klina, Drenica, Gjilan, and many other settlements,” he said.
Kurti stressed that these massacres are proof of the genocide committed by Serbia and called for justice to act more vigorously in investigating and punishing those responsible for these crimes.
He also noted that the Institute for War Crimes in Kosovo is collecting evidence to document the crimes against humanity and Serbian genocide in Kosovo.
“Our responsibility for history and justice for the fallen, as well as for the development of our Republic, is eternal! With pain and pride, we remember all those who fell, today and always. May their memory be eternal!” Kurti concluded.
