Joe Biden’s poor performance in Thursday’s debate caused panic among Democrats, who are now considering whether to replace the 81-year-old president with a stronger candidate to fight Donald Trump, the “Financial Times” wrote.
The contenders to replace Biden start with his vice president, Kamala Harris. Several Democratic governors, including California’s Gavin Newsom and Michigan’s Gretchen Whitmer, are also on activist lists — and have cultivated a national presence in recent months despite supporting Biden.
Democratic governors from traditionally Republican states, such as Andy Beshear of Kentucky and Roy Cooper of North Carolina, are distant contenders, as are Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and Ohio Sen. Sherrod Brown.
In an article of the “Financial Times”, the name of Kamala Harris is mentioned as a potential candidate for president. She now holds the position of vice president. Harris immediately received the support of Joe Biden.
Also, the name of Gavin Newsom, the Governor of California, is mentioned.
Another familiar name is that of Josh Shapiro, the Governor of Pennsylvania.
The article also mentions the name of Gretchen Whitmer, the Governor of Michigan. Also appearing is the name of JB Pritzker, Governor of Illinois.
