Amsterdam is preparing for a potential armed conflict with Moscow, warns the head of Dutch intelligence, as reported by Rks News.
Vice Admiral Pieter Reesink, the head of Dutch military intelligence (MIVD), told Politico that Russia’s increasing military escalation points to preparations for future warfare – not just in Ukraine. In 2024, Russia’s defense budget was raised to $149 billion, 38 percent higher than the previous year and double what it was in 2015.
“Russia is producing far more artillery – with foreign assistance – than it needs for Ukraine,” Reesink said.
He warned that Moscow is not only replenishing its arsenal but is also moving its firepower closer to NATO borders, including the Baltic states and Finland. Reesink believes Russia could be ready for future conflict within a year if weapons production continues and the Kremlin still has the will to fight.
“The Netherlands, like the rest of NATO, is in an increased state of readiness,” he added.
