Prime Minister Albin Kurti remembered the Polac massacre in Drenas, which occurred 25 years ago on April 7, 1999.

Through a statement on the social network Facebook, he declared that April 7 is the date when the civilian victims and martyrs of Polac in Drenica are commemorated.

“Before the war in Kosovo began, in the village of Polac in the municipality of Skenderaj lived about 450 families with over 4,000 residents, all of them Albanians. But during the offensives of the Serbian army and police in the summer of 1998 over the villages of Drenica, and especially during the criminal campaigns of the Serbian armed forces, in Polac 86 people were killed: 78 unarmed civilian victims and 8 martyrs from the Kosovo Liberation Army. Of those killed in Polac, 12 people were from the Kerolli neighborhood, 11 from the Kabashi neighborhood, 11 from the Veliu neighborhood, 11 from the Xani neighborhood, 8 from the Koci neighborhood, 4 from the Aliuka neighborhood, 3 from the Hoti neighborhood, as well as from other neighborhoods”.

“After the murderous campaigns carried out on the Albanians of Kosovo, the greatest concern of the state of Serbia was the hiding of these crimes and the disappearance of traces, mainly aimed through the disappearance of the dead bodies. Seven residents of Polac are still missing, while the authorities of Serbia refuse and turn their backs on cooperation with international justice. During the war, 20 residents of Polac survived the wounds,” Kurti said.

Kurti added: “The society and the state of Kosovo will take care of the legacy of the people of Kosovo’s war. We will not cease seeking justice for the victims, for the war crimes and war damages towards the criminals and at the address of their commanders”.
