For the 40th time, sworn-in members of the Kosovo Assembly will attempt to constitute the legislature today. The continuation of the session is expected to begin at 11:00 AM.

The last session saw a heated debate between the presiding member, Avni Dehari, and three deputies from the former opposition. Presiding member Dehari called on political entities that had not yet proposed names for the electoral commission for the election of the Assembly Speaker via secret ballot (PDK, LDK, Lista Serbe, and AAK-Nisma) to do so.

Disagreements Over Voting Procedure

This request met with disagreement from deputies of PDK, LDK, and AAK, specifically Vlora Çitaku, Hykmete Bajrami, and Time Kadriaj. Dehari reminded the Assembly that debate is not permitted during the constitutive session.

Subsequently, the proposed composition of the commission, with members put forward in previous continuations of the session, was put to a vote. With 53 votes in favor, none against, and no abstentions, the Assembly lacked the necessary quorum for decision-making.

Presiding member Avni Dehari announced the continuation of the session for today, Tuesday, July 1, at 11:00 AM.

Meanwhile, in an effort to resolve the political deadlock, Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani will convene meetings with leaders of political parties in the coming days to address the ongoing institutional stalemate.
