Officials in the United Kingdom have reported that another child, injured during yesterday’s knife attack in Southport, has died after being unable to withstand the injuries sustained.
The latest victim has been identified as a 9-year-old girl, while it was previously reported that two other girls, aged 6, who were also injured in this attack, did not survive their injuries. Currently, the confirmed number of victims from the attack stands at three.
Officials also added that five other children and two adults, injured during yesterday’s attack, remain in critical condition.
This has been the deadliest attack on children in the United Kingdom to date, and the incident has shocked the public.
Although the attacker was arrested immediately after the incident, officials have not yet released his full identity. They have stated that he is a 17-year-old, born in Cardiff, UK, to parents who came from Rwanda. So far, neither he nor his family members have had any criminal records. Authorities also mentioned that various media outlets, citing online sources, have published an incorrect name for the attacker and have appealed to the public not to spread panic or false information.
Officials also warned against speculating about the motives for the attack, as the attacker is still being interviewed and the police do not yet know why this attack was carried out.
