The United Kingdom is aiming to reach agreements with Kosovo, Serbia, and North Macedonia to combat human trafficking.
This was reported by the British media outlet Independent, which highlighted the participation of Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the European Political Community summit in Hungary.
“This is not the European Union, and none of these three countries are (yet) EU members, so it bypasses conservative accusations that he is trying to ‘reverse Brexit,'” the report stated.
These agreements aim to increase the exchange of information and expertise to tackle criminal trafficking networks, announced the UK government.
The initiative came ahead of the European Political Community meeting, where Starmer will lead a discussion on migration.
The Prime Minister called for coordinated action to reduce the number of victims in the English Channel due to dangerous and illegal small boat crossings.
During his speech at the Interpol Conference in Glasgow, Starmer emphasized that organized crime related to migration should be treated with the same priority as terrorism.
He warned that only through international cooperation will it be possible to dismantle the criminal networks of traffickers exploiting migrants.
