The United States has decided to withdraw from its role as a mediator in the peace talks between Ukraine and Russia after Russian President Vladimir Putin refused to accept a ceasefire.

This was confirmed by the U.S. Department of State, which stated that it is changing its “methodology of contribution” and will not “travel the world immediately” for meetings with the parties involved.

The U.S. move comes at a time when Washington has signed an agreement with Ukraine for minerals with more favorable terms than previously expected.

Additionally, President Donald Trump is reported to have approved the first shipment of weapons from his administration to Ukraine.

According to the Department of State, responsibility now lies with the warring parties.

“Kiev and Moscow must present ‘concrete’ proposals for ending the war and meet directly to resolve the conflict,” the statement said.
