Electric air taxis developed by Joby Aviation will begin commercial operations in Dubai by the end of this year, said Mattar al-Tayer, Chairman of the Roads and Transport Authority of Dubai, on Friday.
Joby Aviation conducted the first test flight of its electric air taxi in the emirate in June 2025, marking a significant step in Dubai’s efforts to integrate them into its existing transport network.
The Joby Aerial Taxi, the company’s main electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, can fly up to 160 kilometers at speeds of up to 320 km/h.
With zero emissions, Joby’s air taxi is designed to be environmentally friendly and quiet enough for commercial use in densely populated urban areas.
Earlier in 2024, Joby signed a contract with the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, granting the company exclusive rights to operate air taxis in the city for the next six years.
