Tens of thousands of people gathered today in Berlin to protest Germany’s support for what they described as genocide by Israel in the Gaza Strip.

The demonstration, titled “All Eyes on Gaza – Stop the Genocide”, was organized by a coalition of around 50 groups, including pro-Palestinian organizations, Medico International, Amnesty International, and the opposition Left Party.

Organizers demanded an immediate halt to German arms exports to Israel, unrestricted access for humanitarian aid into Gaza, and the imposition of EU sanctions against Israel.

According to them, Israel’s actions have long been described as genocide by international experts and organizations, while the International Court of Justice is currently investigating them as such.

“At a time when everyone can see how the Israeli army is committing mass atrocities in Gaza, the German government denies the systematic violence,” the organizers stated.

Police estimated that around 18,000 people gathered in front of Berlin’s city hall, while thousands more joined earlier demonstrations across the city.

The leader of the Left Party, Ines Schwerdtner, criticized the German government’s silence:
“Chancellor (Friedrich Merz) and ministers speak, but they do not act. They talk about ‘state reason’ while hospitals are reduced to rubble. They remain silent about genocide – and they are complicit,” she declared.
