On Tuesday evening, threatening graffiti written in Cyrillic appeared in North Mitrovica, reading: “At dawn, Albin Kurti will be dead.” The perpetrators have not yet been identified.
Security expert Nuredin Ibishi, in an interview with Ekonomia Online, described the graffiti as a direct threat against the acting Prime Minister and part of a hybrid warfare strategy that intensifies ahead of local elections.
“This is a hybrid warfare tactic before the elections. It is a serious threat because it directly concerns the life of the acting Prime Minister. We are in a sensitive pre-election situation, especially in the northern part, where threatening graffiti and other criminal acts are repeatedly appearing. Institutions must take this seriously,” Ibishi emphasized.
He urged Kosovo’s security institutions to act promptly, strengthen technical surveillance systems, and intensify cooperation with international partners to prevent potential incidents.
Ibishi also highlighted Serbia’s ongoing role in destabilizing Kosovo through hybrid strategies:
“Serbia continues using hybrid warfare methods. This requires serious measures, covering the terrain with technical security systems, and ensuring continuous cooperation with international security presence in Kosovo.”
Meanwhile, Deputy Police Chief for the North, Veton Elshani, downplayed immediate concerns, stating there is “no cause for alarm”, although no suspects have been identified yet.
