The Fourth Diaspora Summit was held in Tirana on Monday, bringing together representatives of the Albanian diaspora from around the world. The opening ceremony was attended by President Bajram Begaj, who emphasized the diaspora’s central role in Albania’s development and European future.

In his address, Begaj described the diaspora as a “true development partner” and a vital force for the country, stressing that Albania is entering a decisive phase on its path toward European Union membership.

He highlighted that the right to vote for Albanians abroad is no longer just a promise but a reality, underlining the importance of integrating the diaspora into Albania’s political, economic, and social systems.

“The diaspora should no longer be seen only as a source of remittances, but as a strategic partner in development,” Begaj said, calling for investments, knowledge transfer, and stronger engagement in sectors such as energy, tourism, agriculture, and technology.

He also stressed the importance of strengthening cultural and linguistic ties with Albanians abroad, warning that identity must be preserved across generations.

Begaj concluded that the Albanian diaspora is one of the country’s greatest assets, serving as a bridge between Albania and the world, and urged deeper institutional cooperation to turn that potential into concrete national progress.

The summit is part of Albania’s broader effort to strengthen ties with its global diaspora ahead of its strategic goal of EU integration by 2030.
