Serbs will celebrate the Vidovdan holiday today, which will be commemorated in Gazimestan, on the outskirts of Prishtina.
The Kosovo Police stated that it has taken the necessary measures to manage the security situation and ensure the smooth running of activities during the “Vidovdan” events.
They have appealed to all participants to manifest peacefully and to avoid provocations.
“Regarding the ‘Vidovdan’ events, which are expected to be held on June 28, 2025, the Kosovo Police (KP) has undertaken planning and operational measures in a timely manner for managing the security situation, maintaining public order, guiding road traffic, and border management,” reads the official statement by the Kosovo Police.
The police confirmed they held an official meeting concerning the operational plans and measures for Vidovdan.
“The senior management presented the details of the operational plan, which were communicated to all representatives of local and international institutions present at the meeting,” the statement continues.
It further states that the police authorities have foreseen the necessary planning, coordinating, preventive, and operational measures across all departments and police regions to ensure that the manifestations take place peacefully and without incidents.
“Through this official announcement, the Kosovo Police APPEALS to all citizens and participants to manifest peacefully, to avoid any possible provocation, and to respect the laws and the instructions of the Kosovo Police, which will be present with its units to provide security and prevent any unlawful actions,” reads the police appeal to participants of this event.
They have also asked for the understanding of citizens in the event of temporary road closures or possible traffic redirections. “The Kosovo Police remains committed to fulfilling its legal duties and authorizations, managing the security situation, and implementing the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo in order to guarantee a calm and safe environment for all citizens without distinction,” the statement concludes.
The Acting Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, said during yesterday’s government meeting that there are warnings of destabilization during the Vidovdan commemoration—this religious holiday traditionally organized by Serbs on June 28 at Gazimestan. Kurti said that although this day has a religious character, it has unfortunately been misused by Belgrade authorities to spread political, inciting, and threatening rhetoric against public security in Kosovo.
“Official Belgrade, which is facing widespread protests by students and others, is trying to divert attention elsewhere. In this attempt to reduce the scale of anti-government and anti-regime protests taking place the same day in Belgrade, the Serbian government may use destructive elements to incite incidents in Gazimestan,” said Kurti.
He further stated that, according to the assessments of Kosovo’s security and intelligence institutions, efforts are underway to make the gathering at Gazimestan as massive as possible. The Prime Minister said that groups of Serbs from Serbia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina have been organized to come to Kosovo and that these groups have traditionally been provocative, carrying Serbian and Russian nationalist symbols, which are in violation of the Constitution and also contrary to democratic and European values.
“We call on all our fellow citizens, especially from the Serb community in Kosovo, to respect the law and not allow themselves to be used for political purposes. We also call on all our compatriots not to fall prey to any provocation from anyone tomorrow,” Kurti emphasized.
He said that the gatherings for the commemoration of Vidovdan must be organized in full accordance with the law.

The institutions of the Republic of Kosovo are committed to guaranteeing the rights and freedoms of all communities and will not tolerate actions that threaten public order, security, and peace in Kosovo,” he said.
