Today, the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy of the Council of Europe will convene, where Dora Bakoyannis’ report, the rapporteur for Kosovo in the CoE, is expected to be voted on. In Kosovo, there is anticipation that the report will receive the green light and proceed for review in the Parliamentary Assembly, which would then pave the way for the final decision by the Committee of Ministers of Foreign Affairs.
The inclusion of Kosovo in this body has been reactivated in recent weeks, following the request of the Government of Kosovo to the Cadastre Agency for the transfer of 24 hectares of land in the name of the Decani Monastery, fulfilling one of the primary conditions for membership.
The Council of Europe – where Kosovo applied for membership in 2022 – is the leading organization in Europe in the field of human rights.
It comprises 46 countries, including 27 European Union member states and all the countries of the region.
The European Court of Human Rights, headquartered in Strasbourg, France, monitors the implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights.
Occasionally, countries must amend their laws or make any other changes to ensure that a noted violation is not repeated.
