A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 struck near Tonga, triggering a tsunami warning for the Pacific island nation.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the earthquake occurred around 100 kilometers northeast of the main island in the early hours of the morning, according to The Independent.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued an alert, stating that dangerous waves could be possible along coastlines within 300 kilometers of the epicenter.
There have been no reports of damage as of yet.
