A drone strike in Kalogi, located in Sudan’s South Kordofan region, hit a nursery, killing at least 50 people, including 33 children. The news was reported by the Sudan Doctors’ Network and the Sudanese military, which blamed the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for Thursday’s attack.
RSF has not yet issued an official response to the allegations. Meanwhile, the paramilitary group accused the Sudanese army of a Friday attack on a market and fuel depot at the Adre border crossing with Chad. According to RSF, the area was used for distributing humanitarian aid and commercial supplies.
The army-linked foreign ministry stated that the nursery in Kalogi was hit twice by drone-launched missiles, and that civilians and medical personnel who rushed to the scene were also targeted. Independent verification of the reports remains difficult due to the deteriorating security situation.
UNICEF strongly condemned the attack. Spokesperson Sheldon Yett called it “a horrific violation of children’s rights,” emphasizing that “children should never pay the price of conflict.” The agency urged all warring parties to immediately stop attacks and ensure safe access for humanitarian aid.
Since April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in a deadly power struggle between the army and RSF, former allies. The Kordofan regions—North, South, and West—stretching between the capital Khartoum and Darfur, have become a central front of the conflict. Battles have intensified as the army seeks to advance toward Darfur, putting nearly 8 million residents at risk.
