Serbian politician Rada Trajković has stated her belief that U.S. President Donald Trump will assume direct leadership of the negotiations between Kosovo and Serbia, as well as in Bosnia.

EU’s Lack of Authority and Trump’s Pace-Setting Role

According to Trajković, the European Union currently lacks the authority to effectively continue the negotiations, leading her to anticipate that Trump will set the pace. “Unfortunately, the EU lacks the strength or authority to continue negotiations. And President Trump is not accustomed to ‘following’ the EU anyway; he wants to take the lead and determine the rhythm of negotiations. I believe he will certainly start talks on Bosnia and Kosovo,” she told “Danas.”

Trajković emphasized that Trump has already established a significant foundation with the Washington Agreement, which included two key elements: “the status of Serbs and the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo, as well as economic normalization, including co-management of strategic resources like Gazivoda and Trepça.” She praised the Trump administration’s efforts to bring Pristina and Belgrade closer through concrete projects—such as air and rail transport—and to foster economic cooperation without emphasizing national borders.

Dismissing Claims of Serbian Military Preparation

Trajković dismissed claims made by Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani regarding serious Serbian military preparations for a conflict with Kosovo in 2025. She noted that no international institution—neither NATO, KFOR, the EU, nor the U.S. Department of State—has thus far provided evidence to support such an assertion.

She added that the Serbian Army maintains good relations with NATO and KFOR, making it impossible for it to undertake actions without a “green light” from any international actor. Trajković further suggested that if such a plan existed, it would be the result of a non-transparent agreement, which she does not believe to be the case.
