In response to Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić’s message commemorating the genocide in Srebrenica, Rada Trajković accused Vučić of using the event solely for political gain on the international stage.

She emphasized that Vučić neither has the will nor the intention to confront Serbia’s criminal past, as he continues to protect the perpetrators of crimes ranging from the genocide in Srebrenica in 1995 to the armed attack in Banjska, Kosovo, in 2023.

Trajković wrote on the social platform X:

“Why issue such an important statement in English? You told this to the international community a long time ago. Maybe it’s better to say this in Serbian so that the perpetrators you protect—from Srebrenica to Banjska—can hear it clearly? Or is the point that with this statement you wash yourself clean and save your seat while the people remain collectively guilty?”

Meanwhile, at the Srebrenica Memorial Center in Potočari, seven more victims of the July 1995 genocide were laid to rest today, bringing the total number of those killed to over 8,000 Muslim men.

However, for Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, this was not genocide, but rather a terrible crime committed by Serbian forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1995.

Vučić stated:

“Today marks thirty years since the terrible crime in Srebrenica. We cannot change the past, but we must change the future. Once again, on behalf of the citizens of Serbia, I express my condolences to the families of the Bosniak victims, believing that such a crime will never happen again.”

Vučić’s denial of genocide in Srebrenica

Vučić’s refusal to acknowledge the Srebrenica massacre as genocide contradicts established legal rulings. The genocide in Srebrenica has been legally recognized by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), and the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

So far, 54 individuals have been convicted with a total of 781 years of prison sentences, including five life imprisonments.

Those convicted include the highest military and political leaders of the Republika Srpska and the Bosnian Serb Army.
