Workers at the Flotation and Technical Security units of the Trepça mine in Stantërg have not received their May 2025 salaries.
This was stated in a reaction from the Independent Union of Trepça Miners, which issued a series of criticisms directed at the government, board, and management, citing what they call “chaos and a total lack of organization.”
Union representatives assert that the aforementioned institutions are not protecting the workers’ interests. On the contrary, they claim the institutions are “pushing them to the brink of endurance with delays, selective wage distributions, and inhumane working conditions.”
Frustration Over Unpaid Wages and Difficult Conditions
“Despite daily sacrifices in extreme working conditions, without supplies, without investments, when we achieve production records for years, you responsible institutions remain silent, rewarding us with zero. This is an insult to every worker who risks their life every working day above ground, underground,” the announcement stated.
The union warns of strong union actions and public protests if there is no urgent reaction and immediate payment of wages for all workers without exception.
“Miners are not numbers! They are people who work with dignity in the most difficult and dangerous workplace. Stop playing games with their lives and sweat!” concluded the Independent Union of Trepça Miners.
The wage situation has become a recurring issue at Trepça. In August 2024, a number of miners were protesting at the Trepça management offices in Mitrovica, dissatisfied because their June and July salaries had not been paid on time.
