The main trial against 12 students and activists from Novi Sad, accused of attempting to overthrow the constitutional order, began today at 9:30 AM in the Higher Court in Novi Sad.

A group of citizens gathered outside the court to show support for the accused activists.

A few days ago, the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office (VJT) in Novi Sad rejected defense requests to recuse the acting prosecutor, Slobodan Josimović, as well as requests to remove chief prosecutors Branislav Lepotić, Tatjana Lagumdžija, and the Supreme Public Prosecutor Zagorka Dolovac from the case.

The proceedings initially began on November 24, 2025, against activists from the Movement of Free Citizens (PSG)—Marija Vasić, Davor Stefanović, Lada Jovović, Srđan Đurić, and Mladen Cvijetić—as well as members of Students Against Authoritarian Rule (STAV)—Lazar Dinić, Mile Pajić, Doroteja Antić, Anja Pitulić, Branislav Đorđević, Jovan Dražić, and Dejan Bagarić.

Defense lawyers claim that the only evidence in the case—a wiretapped conversation—was obtained illegally, and that the criminal complaint filed by the Ministry of Interior does not specify what is problematic in the conversation itself, but rather focuses on what the activists thought.

At 11:00 AM, a protest is scheduled outside the Novi Sad court by judges, prosecutors, and lawyers, opposing what they call the “Mrdić laws”.
