Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has urged the country’s citizens to “choose Canada” when making purchases, following the imposition of a 25% tariff on Canadian goods by the United States.
“This might mean checking labels at the supermarket and choosing products made in Canada. It might mean picking Canadian whiskey instead of orange juice from Florida,” said Trudeau.
He also called on Canadian citizens to reconsider their vacation plans if they had previously included the United States.
“This could mean changing your summer vacation plans, staying here in Canada, and exploring the many national and provincial parks, historical sites, and tourist destinations our great country has to offer,” Trudeau said in a speech to Canadians.
Earlier, Trudeau stated that Canada would impose a 25% tariff on $155 billion Canadian dollars ($102.7 billion euros) worth of U.S. goods in response to the 25% tariffs the United States imposed on Canadian products.
