Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has strongly dismissed the idea proposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump to integrate Canada as the 51st state of the United States.
In a statement made just a day after resigning as Prime Minister, Trudeau declared, “There is absolutely no chance of that happening,” emphasizing Canada’s sovereign identity and its independent governance.
He highlighted the robust partnership between the two nations in trade and security, noting that both Canada and the U.S. equally benefit from their collaboration.
This response comes after Trump, in December of last year, reignited his controversial idea, labeling it “a brilliant concept” to incorporate Canada as part of America.
Trudeau’s firm stance underscores Canada’s commitment to maintaining its unique identity and strong bilateral ties with its southern neighbor, without compromising its independence.
