US President Donald Trump has once again responded after the tensions that arose with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during their meeting at the White House. Trump stated that Zelensky “went too far” and emphasized that the United States seeks peace, not a 10-year-long war.
In an interview with Fox News, Zelensky was asked whether the confrontation with Trump was planned, as some Democrats had suggested. He stated that he did not believe it was a setup and described the situation as “really difficult.”
Zelensky thanked the United States for its support in the fight against Russia, but acknowledged that the meeting with Trump did not go as expected. He added that the relationship between him and the US president could still be salvaged despite the tensions.
The confrontation came after Trump and Vice President JD Vance criticized Zelensky for “gambling with World War III.” During an interview, Zelensky avoided questions about whether he owed Trump an apology, expressing that it was important to be open and sincere, and he did not believe they had done anything wrong.
The White House meeting was intended to discuss an agreement regarding minerals, which Ukrainians hoped could open the possibility for a ceasefire and lead to security guarantees from the US for Ukraine.
