The Trump administration will require foreign tourists to submit their social media activity from the past five years to gain entry into the United States.

This is the latest measure by President Donald Trump aimed at reviewing entries into the country, following last week’s announcement of an immigration freeze affecting 19 countries.

The “mandatory” policy was published Tuesday by U.S. Customs and Border Protection in the Federal Register.

Who Will Be Affected

The social media data requirement applies to all visitors, including citizens from visa-exempt countries such as the United Kingdom and Germany.

This development follows a June announcement by the U.S. State Department requiring travelers to disclose their social media profiles.

Additional Information Requested

In addition to social media activity, travelers will also need to provide:

  • Email addresses,
  • Phone numbers,
  • Information about family members,

…to ensure a smooth entry process.

The public will have 60 days to submit comments on the measure, according to the announcement.

Context and Upcoming Events

The move comes ahead of major international events hosted in the U.S., including the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympics, which are expected to attract hundreds of thousands of foreign visitors.

“This measure is part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to enhance national security and monitor travelers before entry,” officials stated.
