“Iran’s Supreme Leader must be very worried,” said U.S. President Donald Trump, referring to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The statement came after reports that planned talks between U.S. and Iranian delegations were failing.
According to U.S. officials who spoke to Axios, the United States informed Iran that it would not accept Tehran’s requests to change the location or format of the talks scheduled for Friday.
Both delegations had agreed to meet in Istanbul on Friday, with other Middle Eastern countries participating as observers. However, on Tuesday, the Iranians stated that they wanted the talks moved to Oman and conducted at a bilateral level to ensure that discussions focused solely on nuclear issues and not on other matters, such as Tehran’s ballistic missile program.
