The campaign led by President Donald Trump and his advisor Elon Musk to drastically reduce bureaucracy in the U.S. government was announced on February 14, 2025, laying off over 9,500 employees from federal departments.
Trump argued that the federal government is overly bloated and that a significant amount of money is lost due to waste and fraud.
Furthermore, the government faces a debt of around $36 trillion and a deficit of $1.8 trillion.
However, Democrats in Congress criticize the campaign, viewing it as an overreach into the constitutional authority of the legislature over federal spending.
