U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that he is considering ground military operations against drug cartels in Venezuela, confirming New York Times reports about alleged CIA covert missions in the country.

“We have the sea under control; now we’re thinking about the land,” Trump said, emphasizing that Venezuela is smuggling drugs into the United States.

When asked whether he had planned to assassinate Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, Trump responded that “it wouldn’t be serious to answer that.”

Maduro reacted sharply, accusing the U.S. and the CIA of attempting a coup d’état, declaring that Latin America rejects military intervention and regime change.

According to reports from Caracas, at least 27 people were killed during U.S. attacks on ships near Venezuela’s coastline.
Washington maintains that the targets were cartel vessels, though no public evidence has been presented to support this claim.
