Donald Trump has confirmed that Doug Burgum, the current governor of North Dakota, will be appointed as the Secretary of the Interior of the United States.
Burgum, who is serving his second term as governor, has also been named the chair of the “National Energy Council.”
The council will “consist of all Departments and Agencies involved in permitting, producing, generating, distributing, regulating, and transporting all forms of American energy,” Trump wrote, adding that the focus will be on driving innovation rather than unnecessary regulations.
“This Council will oversee the path to American energy dominance by cutting red tape and increasing private sector investment across all sectors of the economy,” Trump stated on Truth Social.
Burgum had run for president in 2024 but ultimately dropped out and endorsed Trump, becoming a campaign advisor, particularly on energy issues.
