Washington D.C. – November 20, 2024 – President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Dr. Mehmet Oz, a well-known TV personality and cardiothoracic surgeon, to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
Trump made the announcement in a statement on Tuesday, saying, “I’ve known Dr. Oz for many years and I am confident that he will fight to ensure that everyone in America receives the best possible healthcare, so our country can once again be great and healthy.”
Dr. Oz, who gained fame as the host of the TV show “The Dr. Oz Show”, also ran for the U.S. Senate in 2022 in Pennsylvania, with Trump’s endorsement, but was unsuccessful. Prior to his Senate campaign, Dr. Oz was a frequent guest on The Oprah Winfrey Show, where he gave medical advice to viewers.
