U.S. President Donald Trump has appointed Tammy Bruce, spokesperson for the State Department and former conservative Fox News host, as the Deputy Representative of the United States to the United Nations, with the rank of Ambassador.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social on Saturday, Trump announced the nomination of Bruce, who has served as State Department spokesperson since January of his second administration.
“I am pleased to announce that I am nominating Tammy Bruce, a Great Patriot, Television Personality, and Bestselling Author, as our next Deputy Representative of the United States to the United Nations, with the rank of Ambassador,” Trump wrote.
He added that Bruce “has served with distinction as State Department Spokesperson, where she did a fantastic job,” and expressed confidence she will “represent the United States brilliantly.”
Bruce, known for her strong conservative views, spent over two decades as a Fox News contributor and is the author of several books critical of the American left, including “Fear Itself: Exposing the Left’s Mind-Killing Agenda.”
As State Department spokesperson, she defended several of the Trump administration’s most controversial foreign policy decisions, ranging from a hardline stance on immigration to the use of private military contractors for aid distribution in Gaza.
It remains unclear when Bruce will officially assume the role, as her nomination must first be confirmed by the U.S. Senate. The current acting U.S. ambassador to the UN is Dorothy Shea, a career diplomat who served as deputy ambassador in 2024.
Bruce’s appointment comes as Trump’s nominee for U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Congressman Mike Waltz, also awaits Senate confirmation.
