President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden welcomed President-elect Donald Trump and Melania Trump to the White House.
Biden and Trump are expected to have a brief private meeting, CNN reports.
Traditionally, the outgoing president then accompanies the president-elect to the U.S. Capitol for the inauguration ceremony.
Afterwards, the outgoing president and First Lady typically depart the Capitol without any elaborate ceremony and leave the city later in the day.
Following Biden’s departure, Trump is expected to meet with his staff and members of Congress in the President’s Room near the Senate chamber. There, he will make his nominations and sign his first executive orders as president.
