American President Joe Biden has met with Republican Donald Trump at the White House following Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential election on November 5.

“Congratulations, Donald,” Biden said, greeting Trump with a handshake and adding, “I look forward to a peaceful transfer of power.”

Trump reciprocated, expressing similar sentiments and thanking Biden for the invitation. Trump had not extended the same invitation to Biden after losing the 2020 election.

“Thank you very much,” said Trump. “Politics is tough. And, in many cases, it’s not a very kind world. But today, it’s a good world, and I appreciate it very much.”

Trump flew in from Florida and arrived at a military base near Congress, where he joined billionaire Elon Musk for a morning session with Republicans, as he prepares for a unified Republican government and full authority.

The Republican Party will control the Senate and may also secure the majority in the House of Representatives.
