U.S. President Donald Trump attended the commemorative ceremony at the Pentagon on the occasion of the 24th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
During his speech, Trump paid tribute to the 2,977 victims and emphasized that this day will remain forever etched in the national memory of the United States.
“We will never forget,” he said, describing September 11 as one of the darkest days in America’s history.
Trump warned that any attack against the U.S. during his presidency would be met with a strong and merciless response. He also announced a symbolic change, revealing that the Department of Defense has been renamed.
“Therefore, we have renamed the former Department of Defense as the Department of War. This will make a difference,” Trump stated, adding that any aggression will be punished without mercy.
“If you attack the United States of America, we will pursue you everywhere. We will destroy you without mercy and we will triumph without question,” he emphasized.
In remembering the victims of the September 11 attacks, Trump highlighted the resilience of the American people:
“Fierce monsters attacked the symbols of our civilization. Yet here in Virginia, in New York, and in the skies of Pennsylvania, Americans did not falter. They stood strong and showed the world that we will not retreat, we will not bow, we will not surrender, and our great American flag will never fail.”
