U.S. President Donald Trump has condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin, following the most massive airstrike Moscow has launched against Ukraine since the war began.
In a rare rebuke, Trump stated:
“What the hell is going on? He’s killing a lot of people.“
He later referred to Putin as “absolutely crazy.”
Zelensky Urges Stronger U.S. Action
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky previously warned that Washington’s silence in the face of escalating Russian attacks was emboldening Putin. He called for “strong pressure,” including harsher sanctions against Moscow.
Most Intense Night of Air Strikes Since 2022
At least 12 people were killed and dozens more injured during the overnight assault. According to officials, Russia fired 367 drones and missiles, marking the highest number of projectiles launched in a single night since Putin began the full-scale invasion in 2022.
Air raid sirens echoed across many regions of Ukraine early Monday, triggering panic and evacuations.
- In Kharkiv, three people—including a child—were injured.
- In the Zaporizhzhia region, two people were also wounded.
- In Russia, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin claimed that two Ukrainian drones heading toward the capital were destroyed by air defense units, with no reported injuries.
Trump: “I Don’t Like What I’m Seeing”
Speaking to reporters in New Jersey late Sunday, Trump said:
“I’ve known him [Putin] for a long time, always got along, but now he’s firing rockets into cities and killing people, and I really don’t like that.“
When asked whether he was considering tougher U.S. sanctions against Russia, Trump replied:
“Absolutely.“
Soon after, Trump took to Truth Social, posting:
“Putin is totally crazy.“
He added:
“I’ve always said he wants all of Ukraine—not just part of it. That may be true, but if he does, it will lead to Russia’s collapse!“
Trump Also Criticizes Zelensky
However, Trump also took aim at the Ukrainian president:
“Everything coming out of his mouth causes problems. I don’t like it, and he better stop.“
