U.S. President Donald Trump declared on Sunday that his administration has successfully ended eight wars in the past eight months, calling it “an unprecedented achievement for peace.”

Speaking in Malaysia during a ceremony marking a new peace agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, Trump said his government’s diplomatic efforts have brought “historic stability” to multiple global conflict zones.

“This is one of eight conflicts my administration has ended in just eight months — an average of one per month. Only one remains,” said Trump during the signing event in Kuala Lumpur.

The extended ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, signed by Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia and Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul of Thailand, marks the end of years of border clashes between the two nations.

“A Historic Day for Peace”

Calling it a “historic day for regional peace,” Trump praised both countries for “choosing dialogue over destruction.”

“There has been a lot of bloodshed, and we stopped it very quickly,” Trump said, noting that the U.S. played a key role in mediating talks earlier this year.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet described the accord as “a day that will be remembered for generations,” while Thailand’s Anutin Charnvirakul said the deal “lays the foundation for lasting peace and cooperation.”

Under the terms of the agreement, Thailand will release 18 captured Cambodian soldiers, and both sides will begin withdrawing heavy weaponry from the border region.

U.S. Expands Economic Ties in Southeast Asia

President Trump also announced that new economic agreements have been signed with both Cambodia and Thailand, and that a trade deal with Malaysia is expected to be finalized later in the day.

He added that the United States remains committed to strengthening economic and security partnerships throughout Southeast Asia.

During the ASEAN Summit, regional leaders are expected to discuss expanding cooperation with the U.S., particularly in areas of defense, trade, and energy.

Trump’s Asia Tour and Upcoming Meetings

Trump received an official welcome ceremony at Kuala Lumpur International Airport by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, followed by a traditional dance performance celebrating the U.S.–Malaysia partnership.

Kuala Lumpur marks the first stop of Trump’s weeklong Asia tour, which includes visits to Japan and South Korea.

During the APEC Summit in Seoul, Trump is expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping to discuss trade issues and rare mineral supply chains.

According to U.S. negotiator Jamieson Greer, both sides are “moving toward a productive and constructive dialogue.”

“We believe the leaders are approaching a point where they will hold a very productive meeting,” Greer told reporters.

Trump is also expected to meet Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to discuss trade tariffs and bilateral cooperation on economic growth and energy transition.
