U.S. President Donald Trump said today that he might consider the deportation of Elon Musk, following sharp criticism from the billionaire entrepreneur against the administration’s main spending bill.
When asked by reporters at the White House whether he would consider deporting Musk, Trump replied:
“I don’t know. We’ll have to look into it.”
Trump also brought up the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which Musk previously headed before resigning in late May. The president hinted that DOGE might investigate government subsidies received by Musk’s companies, including Tesla and SpaceX.
“Maybe we should put DOGE on Elon. You know what DOGE is? DOGE is the monster that might need to come back and eat Elon,” Trump added.
The threat escalated as Trump suggested that Musk’s criticism of the spending bill—referred to by Trump as “A Big and Beautiful Bill”—was rooted in the removal of electric vehicle incentives.
“He’s losing his EV mandate. He’s very upset about it, but you know, he could lose a lot more than that, I can tell you right now. Elon could lose a lot more,” said Trump.
Musk has not yet responded publicly to these remarks.
