U.S. President Donald Trump has launched a scathing attack on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, accusing him of obstructing peace negotiations with Russia by refusing to compromise on the issue of Crimea.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said Zelensky’s insistence that Ukraine will never recognize Russia’s annexation of Crimea is “very damaging to the peace talks” and only makes it harder to reach a deal between the two countries.

“Crimea was lost years ago and is no longer even a point of discussion,” Trump wrote.

He continued by saying:

“We are very close to a deal, but the man who has no cards left to play must finally finish it.”

Trump Offers to Mediate

Trump concluded his statement by saying he is eager to help mediate between Ukraine and Russia, hoping to bring an end to what he called:

“This complete and total chaos,”
which, he claimed, “would never have happened if I were still president.”

The comments come amid growing international attention on the controversial peace plan reportedly being pushed by Trump allies — a plan that may include formal recognition of Crimea as Russian territory and blocking Ukraine’s NATO membership.

Zelensky’s stance on Crimea remains firm, describing any deal that recognizes the 2014 annexation as unacceptable.
