The U.S. government has revoked a controversial congestion charge imposed on New York City traffic, a policy introduced under the Biden administration.
According to U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy, the toll was an “affront to America’s working class and small business owners.”
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has announced plans to sue the federal government over the decision, arguing that the toll was essential for funding improvements in public transit.
President Donald Trump had opposed the measure from the outset. Announcing its repeal on his Truth Social platform, he wrote, “Manhattan and all of New York have been saved. Long live the King.”
Shortly after, the White House’s official account on platform X posted an AI-generated image of Trump wearing a crown against the New York City skyline, fueling both praise and criticism.
