U.S. President Donald Trump has officially declared that the Israel–Hamas war “is over” as he flew to the Middle East on Sunday to lead the signing of a ceasefire agreement he helped broker.

“The war is over. The war is over — you understand that?” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One, shortly after departing Washington for his brief trip.

His remarks came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier suggested that Israel’s military operations were not yet fully concluded.

Netanyahu warned that the “military campaign is not over” and that Israel’s enemies were “trying to regroup to attack us again”, just hours before the hostages were released, CNN reported.

Trump, however, took a firmer stance, emphasizing that the conflict had come to a definite end.
