U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday he is “very disappointed” with Russian President Vladimir Putin, adding—without providing details—that his administration is preparing measures to reduce the number of deaths in the ongoing war in Ukraine.

“I’m very disappointed in President Putin, I can say that, and we will do something to help people live,” Trump told The Scott Jennings Radio Show.

The U.S. leader also stressed that he is “not at all concerned” about the possibility of an anti-U.S. axis emerging between China and Russia.

Context

Trump’s remarks come just days after the Tianjin Summit in China, where President Xi Jinping hosted, among others, Russia’s Vladimir Putin.

The statements reflect a rare expression of public frustration by Trump toward Moscow, while leaving uncertainty over what concrete steps Washington might take next.
